Quick answer
Statewide, Ohio’s earthquake hazard is generally classified as low. But that’s not the same as zero, and it’s not evenly distributed. Western Ohio, particularly the area around Anna in Shelby County, sits in a recognized seismic zone with a genuine recorded history, more than 40 documented earthquakes over time, which is why the state maintains its own seismic monitoring network through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Earthquake coverage is never included in a standard or high-value homeowners policy by default; it’s always a separate policy or endorsement. Whether it’s worth adding depends on where in Ohio the property actually sits, not a blanket answer for the whole state. We check this specifically for properties in or near the western Ohio seismic zone during a full asset review, and generally don’t recommend it as a default add-on elsewhere in the state.
