Quick answer

Usually yes, but often at a limit that doesn’t reflect what the structure actually cost to build. Standard and even many high-value policies default to a percentage of the main dwelling’s coverage for detached structures, guest houses, pool houses, workshops, garages, rather than pricing each one at its real replacement cost.

For an Ohio property with multiple substantial outbuildings, especially estates on larger acreage, that default percentage is frequently too low. We review detached structures individually as part of a full asset review rather than accepting the default allocation, a gap we cover in more detail in our guide to insuring multi-acre Ohio estates.
